EMERGING INNOVATIONS EPISODE 1 – RICE FISH FARMING

Hectares of paddy fields are the common scenery found in many parts of the Philippines! And for a farm, a farmer needs to invest about P35-50,000 per hectare which can earn P50-60,000 in four months. But did you know that with tilapia farming, you can earn triple or more than one hectare of fishery, every four months? And because you can harvest three times a year, it is also a big help to sustain your rice field! This is the rice and fish farming crop diversification and that is what we are going to talk about today!

For this episode, we will be highlighting a study from the University of Southeastern Philippines, a state university located at the heart of Davao City, Philippines titled “A New Solar-Powered Rice-Fish Farming System for Yield Improvement”.

We will be having one of the proponents of this scholarly innovation,  Engr. Ryan Abenoja, a faculty of the University of Southeastern Philippines -Tagum Mabini Campus. Let’s learn more from him regarding their innovation.
